pressen25aOn the tee on Wednesday 7th May, GGU President Vic Skelton gets ready to tee off in the 1.30pm starting time.

The GGU's Senior Championship is held annually on the prestigious Gailes Links course at Irvine, and it's always a geat season opener.

Conditions on the golf course were very favourable, and we would like to thank our hosts at Glasgow Golf Club for their generous courtesy of the course.

The Glasgow Golf Union fielded a strong team for their first match of the 2025 season held at Killermont, the home of Glasgow Golf Club

The weather was good all day, sunny and breezy. The course was in good condition and played well.

This is a 6 man team competition with 3 morning Foursomes followed by 6 afternoon Singles

The Foursomes were won by Glasgow 2 to1

The Singles were won by Glasgow 3.5 to 2.5 

The overall result was 5.5/3.5 to Glasgow so a strong start to the season for the home Area

The team is shown below at the end of the match adjacent to the Killermont Clubhouse

The Tennant Cup 72 hole Scratch competition takes place at Gailes Links (R1&R2) and Killermont (R3&R4) on 21st and 22nd June.

The competition is open to male amateurs with a handicap index of 2.0. Entry fee is £80.00 which includes lunch.

The event is the oldest Open Amateur Strokeplay Trophy in the world, dating back to 1880.

The competition is a GGU Order of Merit qualifier and a WAGR ranked men's strokeplay event.

The Bishopbriggs Golf Club presents the Junior Inter Club Challenge. The competition takes place on Sunday 27th July, with the first game at 1.30pm.

The event is a 4 ball better ball and is open to Teams of 3 juniors plus a Club Official or Responsible Adult. Entry is £10 per player. There are scratch and net team prizes. To enter scan the QR code.

Congratulations to Neil MacRae on winning the GGU Order of Merit Series 24. Neil tops the Order of Merit this season with a grand total of 653 points. Although there are 9 competitions in which to accumulate points towards the award, Neil only needed 4 of these to make the winning total, including his GGU Matchplay win at Cowglen in May.

All in all, a great season for Neil in the GGU, and we look forward to seeing him at the Prizegiving next year to collect his awards.

The 2024 Final was played at its traditional venue of Gailes Links. The course is in excellent condition with the greens surprisingly quick for October. The weather was good albeit a little cool and breezy at times. This year's finalists were Christopher Hogg of Bishopbriggs Golf Club and Neil MacRae of Glasgow Golf Club.

The match itself was played in a good sporting manner perfectly in keeping with the traditions of the Glasgow Golf Union. Chris dominated the front nine being 3up at the turn and under par. The only halved holes of the entire match were the 3rd and the 6th. The back nine had a different complexion with Neil battling back courtesy of a couple of birdies and some good solid play, Neil eventually running out the winner 2 up.

A great match and occasion and many thanks to Glasgow Golf Club for hosting the event again.

The GGU Handicap Trophy was held at Ralston Golf Club on Sunday 22nd September. The format was Stableford for teams of 3 players.

Congraulations to the winners from the host club, the trio were Norrie Grant, Iain Kennedy and Brian Devoy.
