The GGU Matchplay Championship took place at Ralston Golf Club from Monday 19th May. 15 players who qualified from the GGU Stokeplay Championship at Dougalston on 11th May plus the current Matchplay champion took part in the competition.
The final was played in great spirit by two talented golfers namely Neil MacRae of Glasgow Golf Club and Fraser Grant representing his home club Ralston. Weather conditions were very difficult at times but the players battled through the strong winds and occasional heavy showers with the match concluding with strong sunshine. Neil established a 4 hole lead early in the back nine but Fraser battled back winning 3 holes in a row and a birdie at the 18th to take the match into extra time. Neil went on to take the title at 21st hole with a birdie 3.
Congratulations to Neil and commiserations to Fraser, this was another super final, both players producing great golf in very trying conditions.
Neil retains the title he won last year and makes it 3 in a row matchplay championships, and takes his total to a record equalling 4 wins in total.
