Strokeplay Championship, 19 July

The recent Strokeplay Championship, held at Cathkin Braes on 19th July, resulted in a three-way tie for first place. The players involved, Stephen Keane (Cathkin Braes), Graeme McDougall (Bishopbriggs) and Lindsay Miller (Cawder), returned to Cathkin on the evening of Tuesday 12th August for an 18 hole play-off to decide the final placings.

Despite poor weather prevailing for the entire round all three players showed great determination and skill in their efforts to master the conditions. After 9 holes Lindsay (on 3under par) led Graeme by 2 strokes and Stephen by 5. On the 16th tee Lindsay, with a one shot advantage over Graeme found the trees on the left of the green and ended up taking 5. Graeme, having driven the green, holed out in three and became the new leader. Lindsay’s birdie 3 at the 17th to Graeme’s par meant that it all depended on the 18th. Unfortunately Lindsay’s tee shot found trees on the left and the best he could manage was a bogey 5, while Graeme, safely on the green in 2, holed out for a 4 and victory by 1 shot. Other results from the competition can be found on the results page.
