Glasgow Open Amateur Championship
Pollok Golf Club, Saturday 18th August 2007
The Glasgow Open Amateur Championship at Pollok attracted a small but skilful field of golfers from a range of West of Scotland clubs. Unfortunately the weather failed us and the competition was played without any respite from continuous rain. The Pollok course however stood up well to the elements and allowed the 36 holes to be completed.
Craig Watson of East Renfrewshire, a regular in the event and a past winner, returned rounds of 68 and 71 for a winning total of 139 - a magnificent effort in the conditions. Steve Machin of Cowglen improved on his morning 74 with an afternoon 69 giving him a total of 143 which just pipped Graham Cox of the home club for second place.
The photo shows Craig with Glasgow President, Gus Lamond, alongside the Glasgow City Council Trophy which is permanently housed in the Pollok clubhouse.
